And the $700 billion lotto winner is …

September 29, 2008

Uh, not you.  If you were wondering how the bailout affects you, then check this out.   I don’t want my tax dollars – or my children’s tax dollars for that matter – paying for some high-rolling CEOs bankruptcy.  Ever think about bailing out the homeowners who are literally losing the roof over their head?  Or families who are going bankrupt because they can’t pay their medical bills?  Or investing that money in green jobs so our economy can grow (and save the planet from a little thing called global warming at the same time)?

And, don’t be fooled – paper or plastic?  This one is definitely being paid on plastic.  And it ain’t American Express, it is more likely Yuan.

Let the Freedom/Wedding Bells Ring!

May 15, 2008

The California Supreme Court declared today that Gay Marriage is Legal in California!!!  Read more here.

As many of you know, I have a longstanding beef with the institution of marriage.  Numero Uno on my list has been the denial of the equal right to my gay & lesbian friends, colleagues, and neighbors to be legally recognized as married.  Now, while I still think there are plenty of reasons to not engage in the anachronistic institution, I’m happy to say EVERYONE HAS THE CHOICE (in California, at least …).

A bamboo computer?

April 25, 2008

That’s right. Dell has just announced an Eco-computer with bamboo casing. Filled with materials from recycled products, it is 81 percent smaller than typical desktops and uses 70 percent less energy. The Eco computers are expected to come out later this year and cost between $500 – $700.

Yay, Dell! I would have expected this from Apple, but you are showing yourself a leader by thinking about our environment – all while keeping your products affordable.

In case you didn’t know, computers and other e-waste are big problems. About 220 million tons of old computers and other tech hardware are trashed in the United States each year (EPA, 2001).
